Institute for Energy Economics and Policy (IEEP)

The institute brings together the extensive resources of the university in business, economics, and energy sciences, as well as external resources to address key economic, technology, geopolitical, and social policy issues related to energy. The institute focuses on the international oil and gas industry and international policy issues related to regulatory change, privatization and trade. In addition, the IEEP focuses on important energy relationships in the Middle East, Latin America, Asia-Pacific and their relationship with the United States and Oklahoma.

Mission

The OU Sarkeys Energy Center Institute for Energy Economics and Policy with its a global energy perspective and has the mission of developing quality research and technical understanding of energy systems, organization, and global supply and demand. IEEP is an experienced facilitator and provider of strategic advice for energy organizations, boards and management.

Vision

The IEEP and its associated centers, will train people at all levels to work effectively in the energy industry of the future.

We will help build organizations that:

  • Draw on the talents of people from many nations, cultures, intellectual, technical, and professional backgrounds.
  • Need leadership and management that will energize knowledge workers at every level of operations and allow them to achieve their potential.

CENTERS OF EXCELLENCE

Center for Energy Management Systems

The Center for Energy Management (CEM) provides executive energy management training and assistance in developing strategic visions and planning for clients, and oil and gas information systems for private and public sectors.

Center for Energy Market Analysis

The Center for Energy Market Analysis (CEMA) will develop an annual global outlook in addition to forecasts for the market oil products for North America (NAOPS) and the Eastern Hemisphere (ESOPS). CEMA is also developing EWxAS which will provide a unique tool to plan and risk manage weather for energy companies world wide.

Center for Energy Policy Analysis

The Center for Energy Policy Analysis (CEPA) provides energy policy analysis and recommendations based on quality technical and economic understanding and research. CEPA is also developing an Energy Technology Assessment System (ETAS) which will provide a time and cost evaluation of emerging energy technologies. CEPA has provided extensive advice to public, private, and state energy companies and governments regarding organization, deregulation, finance, and privatization.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING

The education and professional development of students at all levels is a primary goal of IEEP.

The Oil & Gas Executive Management Program is designed to develop leadership skills in middle level managers and fast track individuals in preparation for advanced leadership roles which require a global vision of the industry.

o Oil and gas economics for technical professionals provides a global view of the economics of the industry.

o Petroleum technology for non technical professionals provides essential information for key management and support personnel.

The Energy Outlook course trains all levels of students from economics, business, petroleum sciences, and engineering in the development of a five-year plan, economic and energy outlook. Students in this course will assist in the development of the annual "Sarkeys Energy Center Outlook" which will be developed within the Center for Energy Market Analysis.

The Petroleum Industry: The Global Structures, Strategies and Competition trains all levels of students on global evolution of the oil and gas industry.

Lecture Series: Leadership in the Oil and Gas Industry features distinguished leaders in the international oil and gas industry. The program has featured executives from Conoco, Petroleos de Venezuela, Triton, Caltex, Booz, Allen, Hamilton as well as other major organizations.
